C. Isaiah Smalls II is a multimedia journalist specializing in sports and culture writing who works for the Miami Herald. Smalls received his Master of Science degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2019. Prior to attending Columbia, Smalls graduated from Morehouse College where he blazed the trail of being the institution’s first ever Rhoden Fellow, a fellowship through ESPN’s The Undefeated that served to produce the next generation of black sports journalists. Under the tutelage of award-winning sports columnist Bill Rhoden, he produced a variety of multimedia content including written pieces, videos and podcasts. During the two year fellowship, Smalls juggled being the Sports Editor then Editor-in-Chief of The Maroon Tiger, the Morehouse student newspaper. Before finding journalism, Smalls played defensive back for Morehouse’s football team.
